HISTORY

The Centre for Ecological Research was established on January 1, 2012, after the reorganization of the network of research institutes of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS) in 2011. During the transformation the Institute of Ecology and Botany of HAS and the Danube Research Institute of HAS were integrated into the Balaton Limnological Institute of HAS. As the Balaton Limnological Institute became its predecessor, the foundation of the Centre dates back to 1926. The transformation was led by Zoltán Botta-Duka DSc, Presidential Commissioner. András Báldi DSc was the first director-general of the Centre until the end of 2018. The fourth institute of the Centre for Ecological Research, the Institute of Evolution, was established in the summer of 2019. The Centre for Ecological Research were transferred to the Eötvös Loránd Research Network from 1 August 2019.

Balaton Limnological Institute

Intensive scientific study of the Lake Balaton was started by the Balaton Committee of the Hungarian Geographical Society in 1891. The book series entitled The Results of the Scientific Study of Lake Balaton was edited by Lajos Lóczy. The Balaton Limnological Institute (formerly Hungarian Biological Research Institute) was founded in 1926 by Kunó von Klebelsberg, Minister of Religion and Public Education, in Tihany.More >>

It is this central role that makes the principle of evolution so versatile in the life sciences and beyond: in all scientific disciplines, technology, medicine, linguistics and psychology. The Institute of Evolution is the flagship of Hungarian theoretical evolutionary biology. More>>

Fő célja az ország természe- tes növényzetének megismerése. A vegetációtípusok és tájegységek részletes leírása mellett hamarosan elkészült Magyarország természetes növényzetének rekonstruált térképe, amely eurázsiai léptékű fejlődéstörténeti összefüggésekbe helyezte a hazai vegetációt.
